dianaDr. Bush was an author on an abstract presented to the American Epilepsy Society by Dr. Ned Patterson of the University of Minnesota. The results stem from all the hard work BVNS and Diana Stuebing, LVT in particular has done with the Canine Status Epilepticus Study. This study not only benefited our patients and clients but made a really important contribution to the understanding and treatment of Status Epilepticus (SE) in dogs.

The study has shown that the dog is a very useful and now proven model for studying SE and that fosphenytoin is remarkably effective drug for this condition. We are in the process of getting funding from NIH and through University of Minnesota to study 3 novel drugs for this condition. SE lead to mortality in 25% of the people or dogs that have this seizure condition – therefore the team effort from BVNS will eventually save the lives of dogs and people!
