brewerLast week we told you about Dr. Jarboe being awarded the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) Neurosurgery Certificate of Training, a major accomplishment amongst Board-Certified Veterinary Neurologists.

This week, we get to announce that Dr. Brewer has achieved this certification as well! Congratulations, Dr. Brewer!!

This process may take 1-2 years, depending on the level of interest by our members. In order to obtain the Neurosurgery Certificate, ACVIM Board-certified Neurologists must complete the following:

• Provide evidence that they have satisfied the minimum numbers of hemilaminectomies (50) and ventral slots (20) by submission of a case log using the template provided.

• EITHER attend the ACVIM Neurology Advanced Techniques in Neurosurgery Course OR provide evidence (as described above) that they have performed one of each of the procedures as primary or assistant surgeon:

Transfrontal craniotomy
Later craniotomy/ craniectomy
Foramen magnum decompression
Shut placement for hydrocephalus
Atlantoaxial stabilization
Dorsal cervical decompression (laminectomy or hemilaminectomy)
Cervical distraction/stabilization
Dorsal laminectomy in the TL region
Vertebral fracture/luxation repair
Approach for Spinal tumor removal
Lumbrosacral decompression
Muscle/nerve biopsy

We are very grateful for our doctors and staff who pursue further educational opportunities to improve themselves in their field. The best part of all of this is the impact it has in the care for your pets!
