Conditions affecting the brain, spine and neuromuscular system require special training and expertise to be managed optimally. At Bush Veterinary Neurology Service, our doctors are exceptionally trained and hold the prestigious title of Diplomate, or are in the process of obtaining board certification by participating in our three-year accredited residency program. In fact, BVNS is one of only a handful of private practices authorized to offer such a residency training program, a testament to our commitment to advancing the discipline of veterinary neurology through teaching, training and collaborative research. Our innovative specialists are not only highly skilled and sought out regionally for their expertise, but also lecture nationally, conduct research, have published many articles and book chapters, and collectively have over 50 years of neurology-specific experience.

William Bush, VMD, DACVIM (Neurology)
Neurology/Neurosurgery - Chief of Staff
Dr. Bush was an English major at College of the Holy Cross and a naval officer prior to graduating near the top of his class at the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School. He then completed a rotating internship in medicine and surgery at NC State University. Dr. Bush then returned to University of Pennsylvania for a residency in Neurology and Neurosurgery where he earned research and teaching awards. He settled into the DC Metro area and practiced locally until launching Bush Veterinary Neurology Service in 2005.
Joli Jarboe, DVM, DACVIM (Neurology)
Neurology/Neurosurgery - Medical Director
A native of Shepherdsville, KY, Dr. Jarboe graduated from the Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. After spending a year in private practice and two years in a 24-hr referral hospital as an emergency clinician, she began a three-year neurology residency at the University of Missouri-Columbia. After completion in 1999, Dr. Jarboe stayed on as a clinical instructor overseeing the neurology/neurosurgical practice as well as providing instruction to students, interns and residents in neurology/neurosurgery. In 2001 Dr. Jarboe accepted a position at a busy multi-specialty veterinary referral hospital in Houston. In 2003 she had the opportunity to join a neurology-only veterinary practice in Las Vegas where she was involved in the training of three neurology residents, all of whom have gone on to become Diplomates in the college of veterinary internal medicine (neurology).
Dr. Jarboe has presented lectures at both the local and national level, as well as co-authored several book chapters and scientific articles pertaining to veterinary neurology. She was the recipient of the 2003 College of Veterinary Medicine, Auburn University Young Achiever’s Award and also received the 2006 Distinguished Alumni Award from Eastern Kentucky University Department of Agriculture’s College of Business and Technology. Her passion lies in all aspects of neurosurgery with a particular interest in brain and cervical neurosurgery.
Deena Tiches, DVM, DACVIM (Neurology)
Medical Neurology
Dr. Tiches received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed an internship at Michigan Veterinary Specialists before entering a neurology residency at the University of Pennsylvania which she completed in 1996 becoming board certified in 1997. She remained at the university and served as a Clinical Instructor in neurology for one year before relocating back to the DC Metropolitan area. She joined BVNS in 2007 and oversees the residency program. Dr. Tiches and her husband live in suburban Maryland along with their lovable lab, Quinn and beagle mix, Cooper.
Martin Young, MS, DVM
Resident in Neurology/Neurosurgery
Dr. Young received a Master of Science degree in Anatomy and Neurobiology from Colorado State University where he also received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He spent the first few years out of school working in general practice. In 2007 Dr. Young completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at South Paws Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center before being accepted as the first resident into the BVNS residency program in July of 2008. A Colorado native, he and his wife have settled in Northern Virginia with their Border Collie/Shepherd mix. They are enjoying exploring the nation’s capital as well as hiking, fishing and camping.
Devon Hague, DVM
Resident in Neurology/Neurosurgery
A graduate of The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2007, Dr. Hague then completed a general internship at VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center and Darien Animal Hospital in Connecticut. In 2008/2009 she completed a neurology internship at the Center For Veterinary Specialty Care just outside Dallas. Away from the office Dr. Hague enjoys dancing, sampling international foods and watching independent films. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Dr. Hague is glad to be closer to home. She now resides in Leesburg, VA with her Old English Sheepdog, Cayenne.
Daniel Cuff, DVM
Intern
Dr. Cuff is a graduate of St. George's University School of Veterinary Medicine. After a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Center for Specialized Veterinary Care on Long Island, NY, he joined BVNS as the first Neurology Intern in the fall of 2009. From Great Britain, Dr. Cuff loves to travel and is a Certified PADI rescue diver.
