This sweet, adorable, happy girl is Shelby who came into our BVNS Woodstock location in late December. When Dr. Akin met Shelby she was weak in her pelvic limbs and painful in her back. An MRI was performed after her consultation and showed a ruptured disc in her back at L2-L3 causing severe spinal cord compression. Dr. Akin performed a hemilaminectomy that day to alleviate Shelby’s discomfort and compression of the spinal cord. When Shelby went home the following day, she was ambulatory but still a little weak and wobbly in her back legs.

This is Shelby at her 2-week post-operative recheck with Dr. Akin. She is walking and pain-free at this time!
