Erin Akin
DVM, DACVIM (Neurology)
Neurology/Neurosurgery
WOODSTOCK
Dr. Akin’s passion for neurology was sparked by an unexpected interest in freshman neurology and neuroanatomy classes in vet school. Dr. Akin received her DVM from Auburn University in Alabama and went on to complete a rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship in Florida. After her neurology residency at Mississippi State University, Dr. Akin remained as a clinical instructor lecturing on topics such as degenerative myelopathy, cerebellar disease, vestibular disease and seizures. She also helped fourth-year veterinary students with national board preparation and in her free time volunteered for Dachshund Rescue and the Humane Society.
Never one to shy away from a challenge, Dr. Akin enjoys putting together all the pieces to diagnose neurologic disorders. She is particularly interested in intervertebral disc disease and Chiari-like malformations.
