Charlie came to BVNS Atlanta in April when he was no longer wanting to jump off the bed at home and would yelp out when going down the stairs or when being picked up. Charlie started to get progressively worse over time so a neurological consultation was recommended.

Dr. Akin’s exam found that Charlie was still able to wag his happy tail, but he was essentially non-ambulatory with no motor function in his rear legs. An MRI of Charlie’s spine revealed that he had a disc extrusion at L2-L3 causing spinal cord compression.

Dr. Akin performed a hemilaminectomy surgery the same day to get Charlie back to his normal self as quick as possible. Charlie was able to be discharged the day after surgery when he could almost stand and was taking strong steps with his back legs!

Here he is at his staple removal visit where the owners said that Charlie (on the right) has regained his spunk and tries to play with his housemate (on the left). We look forward to seeing Charlie again at his 6-week post-op recheck!
