Pictured in this photo riding in their stroller are two Dachshunds, Fritzie and Fred (they are housemates and littermates). They were both treated surgically at BVNS Rockville for intervertebral disc disease in the fall of 2017.

Fritzie, came to BVNS for severe back pain and hind limb weakness. Dr. Lipitz diagnosed a disc herniation as the cause for his signs and he underwent a hemilaminectomy procedure. He has since made a full recovery and is pain free.

Fred came to BVNS when he was unable to walk and paralyzed in his hind legs. An MRI exam diagnosed a severe disc herniation and Dr. Bensfield treated him surgically via a hemilaminectomy procedure. Fred also has worked intensively with Skylos Sports Medicine for physical therapy and rehabilitation following his spinal injury. Now, 2.5 months after surgery, Fred has regained the ability to walk and is also on the road to recovery.

Several years ago, Dr. Lipitz performed surgery on Bella, another Dachshund in their household for a cervical disc herniation. Fred and Fritzie are lucky to have such a dedicated family and we are so glad that we were able to help their beloved pets!
