Sal came to BVNS Atlanta in August for having an acute onset of non-ambulatory paraplegia (meaning he was completely paralyzed in the hind end). After a neurological consultation with Dr. Akin and the recommended MRI were performed, it was revealed that Sal had a disc rupture in his back causing spinal cord compression.

Dr. Akin performed a hemilaminectomy to remove the disc material and decompress the spinal cord. Sal went home the next day unable to walk, but able to move his legs and tail well.

This is Sal at his staple removal and two weeks post-hemilaminectomy recheck. This is Sal’s amazing mom, dad, and housemate. He is comfortable today and getting stronger as each day passes. Thank you Dr. Ruth Ann Baird at Shiloh Veterinary Hospital for referring such a sweet family to us! We wish Sal the best on his road to recovery!
