Recently, Dr. Brewer collaborated with Dr. Shelton sending her biopsy samples of muscle and nerve for analysis from Ellie, a 4-yr-old Pit Bull  who presented with a history of rapid and progressive atrophy of the muscles of mastication and inability to open the jaw. pitbull

Dr. Shelton is the director of the Comparative Neuromuscular Laboratory located in the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. Established in 1990, it is an international reference center dedicated to the diagnosis and study of spontaneous neuromuscular diseases in companion animals.

Dr. Shelton is a leading veterinary muscle and nerve expert. BVNS, and most of the country’s neurologists, send their biopsy samples to her lab. Their website features a “case of the month” with the aim of better informing the veterinary community about muscle and nerve disease. We are very pleased Dr. Brewer’s case was selected for this purpose.
