The Role of Residents

As a teaching hospital, we are lucky to have a medical staff that includes both boarded neurologists and neurology residents. This combination of experience, expertise, diverse interests and enthusiasm is a large part of what allows us to provide the highest level of patient care and client service possible.

During or after your visit to BVNS you will likely work with one of our neurology residents because they are a critical part of the care we provide each client. One of our residents may be involved in the initial evaluation, your care while at BVNS or after your pet has returned home. Each of our residents is a trained veterinarian who has already undergone 6 years of veterinary education and chosen to continue their education in an effort to become boarded as a veterinary neurologist. Their experience working at BVNS and with our patients is part of this training.

Residents are important to your experience and our patient care because they provide:

Improved Care

The care of our patients is of the utmost importance to everyone at BVNS. Our residents working alongside our specialists help us provide this high level of care.

Increased Availability

We pride ourselves on seeing patients as quickly as possible and often on the same day as they are referred. Our residents are critical to this availability and to our ability to see each client as soon as possible. This also allows us to offer a 24/7 emergency line and answering service in an effort to be available to you every hour of every day.

Improved Client Service

Our residents allow us to provide 24-hour a day support and improve our ability to provide timely follow up and response to questions & inquiries. The availability that you need and that we want to provide wouldn’t be available without our team of residents.

Advancement of Neurology

BVNS is one of only a handful of private practices in the world that is certified to train residents in neurology. Meeting this commitment requires all BVNS neurologists to have the best possible working knowledge of the optimal tests and treatments available for neurological disease. Our residents help us stay on the leading edge of what is possible in veterinary neurology. BVNS not only utilizes the constant and rapid advancements in neurology for our patients benefit but through our resident’s clinical research we also make important contributions to veterinary neurology.
