Neurobites – Managing and Adjusting Seizure Medications

Welcome to Neurobites. Each week we feature a useful veterinary neurology tip for our referral community, created by one of our board-certified neurologists.

Watch Dr. Sarah Trub of BVNS Richmond explain a tip on managing and adjusting seizure medications. A transcript of this video can be found below.

“Hello, my name is Sarah Trub and I’m a neurologist in our Richmond, Virginia office here to give you a neurology tip for the day.

So, for managing seizure patients, it can be very frustrating to know when and how to adjust seizure medications. What I would recommend is to make sure you’re maximizing one drug before adding on another. For example, if you have a patient on Keppra and the dose is 20 milligrams per kilogram, three times a day, you can incrementally increase that dose up to 60 milligrams per kilogram before considering adding on another drug.”
